IT to become starting 5 for Orlando for the first time after a 36 game abscence.

Isaiah Thomas (Guard)

“Ill return from hip injury, by the same player.”

Isaiah Thomas, who has been at the center of the Cleveland Cavaliers' bench celebrations while waiting patiently for medical clearance following lengthy rehab from a bothersome hip, was once again rooting on his teammates during a comeback attempt that ultimately fell short Saturday night.

One day earlier he was scrimmaging for the first time.

Thomas' debut is right around the corner -- even though the organization refuses to reveal the date. And it appears to be coming at an ideal time.

A baffling loss to the Jazz -- a team that had lost 10 of 12 games going into Saturday -- finished a "trash" West Coast road trip in which the Cavs lost three straight games for the first time since early October. Kevin Love's irrelevant putback at the buzzer kept one of the league's most prolific offenses from falling short of the 100-point mark for the third straight game.

That's not exactly how the Cavs were hoping to celebrate LeBron James' 33rd birthday and wave goodbye to 2017.

Cleveland's revamped bench combined with James' brilliance, Love's stellar play and a favorable schedule have the reigning Eastern Conference champs near the top of the standings once again. That's part of the reason why Lue feels like the Cavs are in good shape heading into 2018. That, and, Thomas is coming.

Isaiah Thomas will be returning to the Cavaliers on Saturday during their game against the Orlando Magic.
